Pasta Made Easy: Basic Dough
This blog is a long time in the making; urbanDIY wasn't a moment of epiphany or sudden inspiration. Instead, it developed over the course of life. Hi, I'm Wanda! Welcome. Please, grab a cup of your favorite tea (or wine) and have a seat. I'd like to share a little story...
I grew up in the country just outside of a big city: playing in fields, helping my dad build stuff, growing vegetables, and showing horses in 4-H. I was full of ideas and always looking for new creative projects. This is where I found my love for nature, animals, plants, working with my hands, and the DIY lifestyle.
At 18, I moved into a downtown apartment. Although I spent plenty of time enjoying city life, I still wanted to learn how to do and make everything. I read books and took classes on lots of topics, including soap-making, medicinal herbology, sewing, incense-making, and cooking. In my 20's, I opened a small local store. Talk about a learning experience!
After returning to school years later to work toward a Bachelor's degree in nutrition sciences, I also became a certified American Council on Exercise fitness trainer. Since then I've specialized in Yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, and functional fitness for seniors.
Enter Keith: Friends for 11 years, after he returned from military service and graduated from college, we decided to start dating one day. Fortunately, he also enjoys learning and doing things himself. Cooking, brewing beer, home improvement projects, building computers and writing software code are some of his favorites. He's pretty great at repairing appliances too (sorry ladies and gents, he's already taken). Now, we live together in our modest urban home set in a large sprawling city where we grow vegetables in a tiny back yard, make beer and soap on the weekends, relax after work with our cats, and go hiking every chance we get. We love hosting parties for friends and family, serving up delicious meals made from scratch. And anything we can create or repair ourselves, we'll find a way. Although this is my blog, you'll see plenty of Keith (and our cats) as we work on projects, brainstorm ideas, and I share our DIY lifestyle with you.
As modern people who respect the planet, we focus on a lifestyle that combines nature with technology. I like to call us "urban DIY'ers" or "urban homesteaders" (which I know is blasphemy against the traditional definition of homesteading). The urban DIY lifestyle is about finding balance in our world today. It's a life where our smart phones light up the night along side homemade candles; our refrigerator stores the organic produce harvested from our garden; our cars carry us to take homemade cheese and beer to friends; and my laptop allows me to share all of this with you – which I'm super excited about!
I hope you've enjoyed this story, along with that beverage you've been sipping on. Whether you're new to living an environmentally-friendly DIY lifestyle or are a seasoned gardener, I invite you to explore this little corner of our world.
